Jim Jordan’s Tips for Model Scouting
JIM JORDAN’S TIPS FOR SCOUTING MODELS
When it comes to scouting models for a fashion show or advertising campaign, the level of detail and effort involved can make or break the success of the project. From finding the perfect look to developing a strong relationship with the model, scouting models requires an immense amount of work and dedication.

Jim Jordan has had an eye for beauty since a very young age. As just a thirteen-year-old, he would hitchhike on his skateboard on a search for the next world-famous supermodel. After spending so many hours beautifying girls and boys with glamorous hair and makeup and sending their photos to agencies, Jordan slowly started making his way to the top as one of the best model scouts in the world.
One of Jordan’s first supermodels that he discovered was Taylor Hill, a current American supermodel and Victoria’s Secret Angel. Hill was fourteen years old when Jordan scouted her in Colorado and he sent her out to Los Angeles for a test photoshoot, and almost a week later she signed with Ford Models. Jordan also scouted the supermodels Gigi Hadid, Jeremy Meeks, and other supermodels who are making a footprint in the modeling industry.
The first step in scouting models is to determine the look that is desired. Every scout looks for something different when they are finding potential models. It’s important to consider the appearance and age of the model, as well as the overall “vibe” of the project.
Many times, Jordan has scouted a handful of younger potential models and in that case, it is important to speak with their parents or guardian if the model is underage. It’s also important to take into consideration any special skills or qualifications that the model may possess, such as dancing or acting. Model scouting can happen anytime and anywhere such as at events like fashion shows, industry parties, or local malls, football games, and concerts.
Once potential models have been identified, establishing relationships with them is just as important. This is an essential step in the process, as it ensures that the model is comfortable with the project and the scout. Model scouts must be personable and knowledgeable about the industry in order to make the best impression on potential models.
Finally, once a model is chosen, the scout must ensure that the model is prepared for the project. This includes everything from wardrobe and hair to makeup and attitude. It’s the job of the scout to ensure that the model is ready to go on the day of the shoot or show. Scouting models is an intense process that requires a great deal of detail and effort. From determining the desired look to establishing relationships with potential models, model scouts must be dedicated and passionate about their work in order to ensure success.
